Open-Source CIM-EARTH Framework (OSCEF)

Researchers:

OSCEF (Open-Source CIM-EARTH Framework) is an environment for integrated economic and climate modeling, analyses, and simulation. The initial version of the framework was written in AMPL and was called CIM-EARTH (Community Integrated Model for Energy and Resource Trajectories for Humankind). To facilitate adoption of CIM-EARTH and integration of data processing and analytic services, we are moving the implementation from AMPL to C++ and adopting standard input and output formats to produce the OSCEF framework. The core of this software framework is the methodology for formulating and solving large-scale computable general equilibrium (CGE) models.

The main goals of OSCEF are envisioned as follows:

  1. Produce from OSCEF a range of economic and integrated assessment models targeted to different problems
  2. Make the OSCEF framework and models available as open-source software
  3. Easily specify and solve CGE models
  4. Make data, model output, emulation algorithms, verification and validation procedures freely available.

In the future, we plan to support entire reproducible workflows that include reading and manipulating inputs, simulating dynamic models on high-performance computing resources, automating parametric sensitivity analyses, and providing analyses and visualization services for the results.
