Today we had an amazing guest speaker in our Foster Children meeting. Rob Jacob is a climate scientist from Argonne National Labs, who has a deep understanding of both the computational and physical side of modelling the climate. He presented a clear and simple overview of the different components that go into modelling the climate of the entire planet. He then spoke in detail about the four different components - Atmosphere, Oceans, Sea Ice and Land. We learned about the current state of development of these models and how they are brought together to produce a Global Climate Model, affectionately called "GCM" by climate scientists.
