Surveying West Englewood for Neighborhood Investment

Today was our first day out and about dropping letters and keys and surveying the characteristics that we settled on last week. We walked around census tract 6706, in which the school is centrally located. The students quickly realized that it was difficult to uniformly assess lawn conditions on a scale of 1 to 10, which they had previously decided. We also found absolutely no graffiti, which surprised all of us. The survey was taking longer than anticipated, so we decided to have an impromptu sidewalk meeting in order to improve our methods. By the time we decided to narrow our lawn condition assessment to a scale of 0,1, or 2, it was time to walk back to the school to wrap up today’s class. We’ll try again next week armed with some experience under our belts.
