Grand Ridge Wind Farm

The wind farm technician opened up an access portal on a wind turbine blade so Mikhal, Brandon, and Semaj could take a look inside. The blades are primarily made of fiber glass and balsa wood and have an access portal so they can be inspected for damage.

Our bus next to one of the blades gives you a much better sense of scale.

After putting on our helmets and feeling very small next to the wind turbine blade, we drove out to one of the turbines near the office. The Grand Ridge Wind farm has 140 turbines generating a maximum of 210 MW of energy. All of the towers are 80 meters tall with a 73 meter rotor diameter requiring about 1/3 acre per tower.
